Hugos Frog Bar & Crew Stuff
1. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY The Great Lakes Farr 40 Fleet is the organizing authority of the Championship Series. The host club of each regatta in the Championship Series will provide the race management, and shall be the organizing authority for their regatta. The first warning signal shall be per the sailing instructions, which will be provided by the host club at each event. 2. RULES 2.1 All races will be sailed under the 2001-2004 International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing, the Prescriptions of the U.S. Sailing Association, and the Farr 40 Class Association Rules, except as modified by the Sailing Instructions of the individual regattas or local Great Lakes Fleet. The current class rules regarding the status of the owner-driver, alternate driver and number of allowed Group 2 and 3 competitors shall take precedence over individual race instructions, unless the Farr 40 OD class has previously approved any modification. Crew weight limits will apply as per Class Rules, modified so that weigh-in will be required once for each crew member of a yacht entered in the Championship series and must be prior to the first regatta in which the crewmember competes. At sign-in, each yacht will be required to certify, on a form provided, that its crew conforms to the class certificate weight limitations. 2.2 A yacht may carry 1 additional person above the crew weight for all Championship regattas except for the Chicago-Mackinac Race. This additional crewmember must be approved by the Fleet Captain at least 3 days prior to the first race. This additional crewmember must sit behind the helmsman and tactician, and is not allowed to hike, assist in any maneuvers or contribute to the performance of the yacht while racing. The boat owner or his representative must submit a request to the Fleet Captain for approval. (The Intent of Rule 2.2 is to allow wives, boyfriends, potential buyers, sponsors, or children to sail on the yacht to see what it is all about. All rulings from the Fleet Captain are not subject to arbitration) 2.3 Any alteration of class rules will only be approved by a majority vote of current fleet members. 2.4 RRS 51is modified to read: For the duration of the Great Lakes Championship Series all moveable ballast shall be properly stowed, and water, dead weight or ballast shall not be moved, added, or removed for the purpose of changing trim or stability. Floorboards, bulkheads, doors, stairs, and water tanks shall be left in place and all cabin fixtures kept on board. The maximum amount of drinkable liquid on board shall not exceed three liters per crewmember per day. 2.5 The maximum amount of drinkable liquid shall not apply to the Chicago-Mac Race. 3. ADVERTISING Advertising shall be according to Farr 40 Class Rule 36. 4. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 4.1 The Championship is open to all yachts meeting the rules of the Farr 40 One Design Class. 4.2 All current members of the Great Lakes Fleet, holding a current class certificate and having paid their Local Fleet Dues, will be automatically entered in the season championship series upon entry in one or more of the five regattas/events. No separate entry or fee for the Championship Series will be required. 4.3 All yachts sailing in the Farr 40 Class are subject to inspections of compliance at any time during a regatta. This includes sail measurement, and safety gear etc. 5. SCHEDULE OF SERIES AND RACES
6. COURSES Courses: All races sailed will be windward/leeward courses and recommended to have leeward gates and windward offset marks, except for the Chicago Mackinac Race. 7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The individual regatta Sailing Instructions will be made available at each regatta sign-in. 8. SERIES SCORING: 8.1 The Low point scoring system as modified by this Notice of Race will be used for scoring of the Championship Series only. 8.2 RRS A9 is modified to read: For a series that is held over a period of time longer than a regatta, a boat that came to the starting area, but Did Not Start, Did Not Finish, or Retired after finishing or was Disqualified shall be scored points for finishing place one more than the number of boats that came to the starting area. A boat that did not come to the starting area shall be scored points for the finishing place of one more than the number of boats that came to the starting area. 8.3 The # of throw outs will be determined by the total number of races sailed in the Championship. Throw-outs will be allowed per the following schedule:
9. PENALTIES 9.1 RRS 44 - Penalties for breaking rules
of Part 2 is modified in that if a boat breaks a rule of Part 2 her alternate penalty
shall be either a 360 degree Turns Penalty or a 20% Scoring Penalty, unless she breaks
a rule of Part 2 within the 2 boat length zone of any turning mark. Then her
alternate 9.2 The 20% penalty shall not be less than two places. 9.3The penalty for any infringement of the Class Rules or ORC regulations is to be at the sole discretion of the International Jury or Protest Committee once racing commences, in consultation with the Class Management Group or non-competing Class Representative. 10. PRIZES 10.1 Overall Awards will be presented by Hugos Frog Bar, and Crew Stuff to yachts and their crews finishing first, second and third, fourth and fifth in the Championship Series. 10.2 The overall 2002 Champion will have a replica ½ model of their yacht displayed at Hugos Frog Bar unless the yacht has already won the prior in which case it shall be the next yacht that has not won. 10.3 A yacht that finishes first in an individual regatta will be awarded a certificate for a 12 person crew dinner at of Hugos Frog Bar. Each yacht may only win this prize once. The certificate will go to the next highest placing yacht that has not already won the prize. 10.4 Crew Stuff will provide 9 Championship polo shirts per boat for the top three placing boats of the Championship. Additional shirts may be ordered at an additional charge. 10.5 A Prize for the Most Improved Boat will also be awarded at the end of the Championship. This Prize will be determined by popular vote of the Fleet. The ballot will be sent out immediately following the Verve Cup. 10.6 An end of the season Awards Party will be held in the Fall. All prizes will be given out at that time. |
