1.  ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

The Organizing Authority is the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club (MBYC).

2. HEADQUARTERS

The official Regatta headquarters shall be MBYC.

3. RULES

3.1 This Regatta shall be governed by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2001-2004, the Notice of Race, the Mumm 30 and Farr 40 One Design Class Rules, and the Sailing Instructions (except as any of these are modified by this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions and any amendments thereto).

3.2 International ORC Special Regulations for Modified Category 4 Equipment and Standards are required, except that a Mumm 30 storm trysail or mainsail reefing to reduce luff by at least 40% is not required. Boats shall comply with the Class Rules and the designer and manufacturers original standards, which shall prevail in the event of conflict.

3.3 Video and/or photographs taken from any support and/or coach boat shall not be used as evidence at protest hearings. This alters RRS 63.6

3.4. This event is designated RRS Category A (Appendix 1, Regulation 20) for advertising. All participating boats may be required to display advertising chosen by the event organizer on the forward part of the hull or on the boom.

4. ELIGIBILITY

The GL Farr 40, Mumm 30 Championship Regatta is open to all Mumm 30 and Farr 40 Class yachts as defined by the respective One Design Class Rule Books. Owners, Charterers and Substitute helmsmen shall be members of their Class Association.

5. ENTRY AND REGISTRATION

Crew lists and US SAILING eligibility letters, along with designation of alternate, relief or substitute helmsmen are due on August 2, 2002. Registration will be completed with the Organizing Authority as described below. Sail declarations may be made on site during registration. By August 2, 2000 hours, all boats shall have completed the following:

a. Complete Registration with Organizing Authority, including fees

b. Crew Weighing complete for those who are not on file, and liability waivers signed and on file

c. Sail Declaration form on file with Kim Kluender

d. Crew eligibility declared and verified on the Sail/Crew Declaration form, and on file with Kim Kluender.

e. All owners, tacticians and boat captains shall be required to sign a declaration that their boat fully complies with Class Rules and that they will abide by said Class Rules while racing

6. SCHEDULE

August 2 1700-2000 Crew weigh in and registration at MBYC.

August 3 0730-0830 Last minute weigh in.

0830 Skippers Meeting MBYC front lawn

1030 Warning signal, as many races as conditions permit

1700-1930 Chicken dinner and Beer for crew (covered by entry fee)

August 4 1030 Warning signal, as many races as conditions permit

1600 Awards immediately following racing

The Organizing Authority reserves the right to modify the above program according to prevailing weather conditions and/or other unforeseen reasons.

The display of code flag ("R") on the finish line Race Committee boat will indicate that an additional race will follow.

7. MEASUREMENT AND INSPECTION

Farr 40s and Mumm 30s may be subject to random inspection prior to and during the regatta.

Random boat and equipment inspections may be conducted after daily races to check for compliance with Class Rules, including ORC Modified Category 4 safety requirements.

8. SAIL LIMITATION

Sails shall be declared by button number during registration. Replacement of sails due to damage may be permitted, subject to written approval of the Protest Committee and inspection by the Class representative.

Re-Cutting of sails after measurement is not allowed.

9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Shall be available at registration

10. RACING AREA AND COURSES

The racing area shall be the waters of Lake Michigan South West of the Holland Pier Head. Courses shall be windward/leeward as diagramed in the Sailing Instructions, and windward offset marks may be used.

11. PENALITES

RRS 44.2 is modified to read: After getting well clear of other boats as soon after the incident as possible, a boat takes a 360 degree Turn Penalty by promptly making one complete 360 degree turn in the same direction, including one tack and one gybe. The infringing boat may take a 20% Scoring Penalty as an alternate. A 720 degree Turn Penalty or a 50% Scoring Penalty shall be required for breaking a rule of part 2 inside the two boat length zone of the windward mark.

The penalty for any infringement of the Class Rules or ORC regulations is to be at the sole discretion of the Protest Committee once racing commences, after consultation with the class management group or non-competing class representative.

12. SCORING

The Low Point Scoring System of the Racing Rules of Sailing as described in Appendix A of the RRS shall apply for the GL Farr 40, Mumm 30 Championship Regatta. Five windward/leeward races are planned. Each boat’s score shall be the sum of all her races. 2 races shall constitute a regatta.

13. PRIZES

Trophies for first through fifth place overall shall be awarded for classes with over 10 boats entered. Trophies for first through third shall be awarded for classes with under 10 boats.

14. DOCKAGE

Space has been reserved for the event at the Eldean Shipyard and will be provided on a first come first served basis at MBYC. Owners are required to contact MBYC and the Eldean Shipyard to make individual reservations. Phone: MBYC 616-335-5815, Eldean Shipyard 616-335-5843

15. SUPPORT BOATS

Restrictions designated in Class Rules and Interpretations.

16. HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS

Boats shall not be hauled during the regatta without written permission of the Protest Committee.

17. HOUSING

All competitors shall make their own housing arrangements.
